The Magic Button ( 6:45 pm )

Adam now has a Morphine drip and can self administer a dose every 10 minutes.  He is in high spirits this evening.  A few more tubes have been removed.  He is drinking only clear liquids so far but he really isn't feeling interested in food yet.  It has been a steady stream of specialists coming through much of the day.  Things are quieting down for the night.  Tomorrow he will meet with the PT and OT folks and they will get him standing and likely walking some.  He is reading your texts and is appreciative of all the love and well wishes.  I will be here tomorrow and will provide another update or two.

Tubes ( 11:45 am )

Breathing tube is out and several vestigial IV ports have been removed.  Adam has an oxygen mask proving some positive air pressure but he can communicate more easily.  He is not ready to talk on the phone and hasn't really even looked at any messages yet.  He has been asking about when he can stand up and start walking around.  They are slowing reducing the pain management.  All good signs.  I will plan to post again end of day.

Awakening ( 8:10 am )

Adam is slowly waking up and is glad to hear things went so well.  He is pretty heavily sedated but has been able to write a few short messages on a notepad.  He'll likely be able to look at his phone later today so feel free to text well wishes to him.   If things go like last time he will probably remain in the ICU for several days and then graduate to the Patient Care Unit ( PCU ) for several days.   Too early for visits now, but we'll share info on how to swing by as things progress.

Resting comfortably ( 5:49 am )

I'm with Adam in the ICU.  He is sleeping still and they'll slowly get him going this morning.  He looks comfortable and vitals are strong.

Wrapping up ( 9:38 pm )

Just spoke with the head surgeon.  They were able to accomplish everything they wanted to do and he is optimistic about it all.  They are still closing up shop and it will be a few hours before Adam is back in the ICU.

Working on the pacemaker now ( 8:24 pm )

Latest update is that they are working on getting the new pacemaker in place and setting the leads.  It sounds like progress to me.  The Navigation team said they don't know how much is left to do.  They did say it could still be several more hours.  It does sound like Adam is holding up well - he is a tough son of a gun.

Nothing to report - updated ( 7:11 pm )

Just spoke with the Navigation team - they are still working.  They said 'patient is doing great'.     Haven't heard anything additional - I'll keep you all posted.

Extra innings ( 5:18 pm )

Just got another update.  Adam is doing well and remains stable and strong.  The surgeon is still with him.  Not any more concrete information than that but it is sounding like some of the scar tissue from past surgeries has slowed them down a little.  This is something that Adam had mentioned being a possibility so not a huge surprise.  I plan to stay until he is in recovery and will continue to update as new info comes in.

Work in progress ( 2:32 pm )

Another update from Navigation.  The surgeon is still working.  Adam remains stable and vital signs are strong.  They continue to emphasize that they don't know how much longer this could be.  Last time we didn't get to see Adam until the end of the day.   I'll add that like last time, I'm very impressed by the hospital staff.  They are well organized and were very reassuring and comforting during the intake.   It is clear that Adam is in good hands.

Everything is on track ( 11:32 am )

Just got an update from the Navigation team.  Adam is stable and things are progressing well.  No real news beyond that.   They will continue to check in every couple of hours and expect this to be an all day event.

Ready.... Steady... GO! ( 7:51 am )

Everything has been very routine so far.  Intake went smoothly.  No surprises.  Adam picked "Avenues and Alleyways" by Rancid for his walk up song. Likely no updates until late afternoon.  I'll post occasionally until then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kInWnJ9et1s
